Holy Cow!
It has been a crazy June. Here at Swarthmore College we are in the mist of our Rental Season. What does that mean? It means we are infested with glitter, hairspray and cheap costumes. These are our future dancers here doing the best they can. Someday they may be with Alvin Ailey but for right now they are dancing to Fleetwood Mac and Frozen and I am wishing I could just give them the lighting they deserve. Instead I am bound to do the whims of the dance recital directors.

Boo.

Out of town Tech

A luxuriously relaxing tech at Juniata College. We have a 10 out of 12 today. So a long day, but not your standard long day. We get a lunch AND a dinner break! It means that there is less time to do notes in between but less time between breaks! Plus the show is mostly cued. Its Arcadia by Tom Stoppard so not a lot of cueing to be done. And I have been here in Huntingdon since Monday and have had ample opportunity to do some pre tech work.

The tech crew here is amazing. They are completely on top of every possible need I could have. Jessie Sullivan, the Technical Director, and Grant, her assistant, run a tight ship here. The lights are all perfectly bench focused and everything was ready for me when I stepped in the door.

Its hard being away from home. I miss my bed. But I get to walk to work and spend time with really great people.

Pre Tech working

Tomorrow starts tech for the first of two shows opening up in the next two weeks. 11th Hours productions of Bombity of Errors starts tech at 10am. Hurricane or not we will be up in the Skybox of the Adrienne theatre.

Let's hope that the Philadelphia machine does not get to us!

I just plain forgot!

So I forgot I even had this thing. But there you have it, one more thing that I let slide. But that is all going to change...again...but this time for reals.

Today was amazing. I went to WonderCon at the Philadelphia Convention Center. It was a good day and I spent way too much money. But I got some great art for the walls, which I will hang as soon as I get some money.

I started dating again. That seems odd to say. Its not like I ever stopped, I just have not found that special someone. Or even that sort of special someone. Or that someone I wanna spend some time with. And then BAM all of a sudden I am smitten. But its all new and I do not want to jinx anything. So maybe more to come on that front.

On Monday this week I went up to NYC for  a friends birthday. I had a great time while there. Although getting there was a mess. MegaBus is an amazing thing but its a fucking nightmare. It was comfortable and not overcrowded but the driver was on crack. He almost hit 3 other vehicals and cut off 2 semis. Weaving in and out of traffic, stopping short, not a good ride.

We had lunch at the Trailer Park Lounge. Great burgers and good beer. Plus I got to see Komal and Tom. Two of the greatest people I have ever met. And they live in New York, which I could never do, and I admire them for that.

It takes a special kind of person to live there. Its not like any other city I have visited. Its crowded, loud dirty, and you can spend most of your day either underground or in horrible lit buildings. It makes people jaded. And everyone seems to be in a rush.

Philadelphia is a huge city, but the pace is much slower. Yes our public transit system sucks. And they are raising the fares. But I live close to all my jobs and my commute is never more than 45 minutes. Which for a city is not half bad.

Ok so this post was a bit all over. Just starting you know. But soon I will have a path. And why not follow along. Who knows where it will lead. I am sure not down the rabbit hole or even over the rainbow, but it will lead somewhere. I promis

Lost Premiere

Hanging out with Megan getting ready for the Lost Season 6 Premiere!

Making Dharma cookies, a coconut cake, fried rice etc.

Gonna be a great night.

I love when a plan comes together.

Back in Iowa City

So a 24+ hour train ride with no wifi! WTF Amtrak no wifi! One of my selling points to me not flying was how much work I could get done on the train. But no nothing.

Train ride was kind of awesome. Nice comfortable seats. It was not too crowded. Overpriced food. Crazy people. But I made it safe and sound.

Spent my first night back in Iowa City seeing people I have not seen in years. Its odd how with some it is like no time has passed and even though we have not talked in years conversations just flow. And with others, its like pulling teeth. And even though you spent so much time together in the past your lives have just veered off each others so much that you no longer have much in common.

Whats to be done? Do you give up and just accept the fact that these people are no longer in your life and dont look back. Or is it just a matter of working at it longer and trying to reconnect.

Spent the night at the bar I used to work. The place has changed so very much. And it was difficult to see the changes. Maybe I just fear change. Or maybe I just fear change in others. I can accept change in myself why not change in others.

Late Night Procrastination.

So here I am at 2:45 in the morning/night and I should be going to bed. Or folding the massive pile of clothes on my bed. But what am I doing instead? Watching Shaun of the Dead.

I am planning a trip to the Midwest. I was supposed to leave yesterday but due to financial setbacks I am stuck in Philly for 2 more days. Its going to be a long train rid but I think I can get a lot of work done. As well as finish the 5th season of Lost just in time to see the premier on Tuesday.

I can not wait to be back in the heartland. Things in Philly are not going well. Its been a bad few months and I am looking forward to having some time away.

Its going to be hard to be away from Physical Therapy but I am sure I can keep up on my own. I just hope Joe is not disappointed in my progress when I return.
